Goodbye 2011!

2011 was a year that went like I never imagined it would. At the end of Dec 2010, I was a SAHM. I set a bunch of goals I wanted to achieve in 2011 and thought I'd have plenty of time to do them. I have always wanted to go to college, but have never really had the chance. Not sure what made me become so gun-ho about attending, but I talked it over with DH and he had no problem with me going, so by the end of January 2011, I became a part time college student!

Since school was a very last minute decision, I missed the deadline for financial aid and needed a little extra cash to help with expenses (I took the cost of tuition and books out of our savings and want to replace it) By the end of February I was working about 20 hours a week in a bakery.

I ended up quiting my job in July for reasons I won't get into (lets just say there is only so much one can take for minimum wage!) In September my part time student statues changed to full time. Man did I study my butt off to get good grades and it did pay off, I currently have a GPA of 3.75!

Needless to say the goals I set for 2011 got pushed aside, but since my life went down an unexpected (but better!) path, I'm not the least bit disappointed. So what if I only read 16 out of the 25 books I planned to read, or I never got around to painting the coat closet, I'm achieving a life goal to have a college degree!!!

My 2011 Goals Part 1

New Year, new goals! I love setting goals. It keeps me focused, organized, and busy. I purposely set myself a lot of goals. I do better if I have more things to focus on. This year I broke my goals down into four categories: Health, Personal, Money/Financial, and Household. Here are my goals for Health and Personal.

Health
When it comes to my health: Its crap! I don't exercise at all and when it comes to food, I'm worse. I'll make an all natural organic dinner for my kids, than once they're in bed I'll order a pizza. All honest truth. I HATE HEALTHY FOOD! I think most fruits and veggies taste gross. I'm a major junk food junkie. But I know I have to get over it.
~Find ways to add exercise to my day. I mean real exercise. Not things like parking in a parking spot farthest from the door type stuff, I mean cardio or strength training.
~Start walking.
~Loose weight. A year ago when I had a part-time night job I ran around all day taking care of kids, my home, and work. Now my kids are both in school, and I don't work. Most days I feel like I don't move. So after I stopped working in March, I gained over 20lbs! I do have a ultimate goal of what I'd like to weigh, but my goal right now is to just start loosing anything in a healthy manor.
~Eat breakfast. Its usually around 1 pm before I get to eat. By then I'm starving and craving sugar and salt, and usually will eat food that's not good for me.
~Eat fruits and vegetables.
~Eliminate harmful food additives from our diets. Mainly these: Sodium nitrite, BHA & BHT, Propyl gallate, Monosodium glutamate, Trans fats, Aspartame, Acesulfame-K, Food colorings (Blue, Red, Green, Yellow), and Potassium bromate
Personal
~Read 25 adult books. I really liked this goal from 2010, so I'm doing it again this year.
~Write in my children's journals at least once a week. Three years ago I got the idea that I'd keep two journals (one for each child) and write to my children about things they do that make me smile, or milestones, ect. I think I've written in these journals maybe 10 times. I'm disappointed that it hasn't been more and that why this is a goal.
~Volunteer. So many places in my community have been hit hard with the recession and depend mainly on volunteers to stay open. Unfortunately we have also been hit hard financially. Instead of giving back with a check, I'd like to give back with my time.
~Use my cookbooks at least 4 times a month. To elaborate on my 2010 goal.
~Complete/catch up on at least on scrapbook. I use to love scrapbooking years ago. I started many different books, most of which sit unfinished.
